Chasing Rainbows

Image
Sometimes we look too far, Leaving all our doors so ajar, Searching for that one fling, Beyond rainbows and everything, We look for surreal moments, Crazy, cool and strange events, Thus ignoring what’s right in front, Ready to bear every single brunt, As do rock stars in a band, We reach out to no hand, He had the world there for him, Yet loneliness filled to the brim, The pain of having then lost, What was always loved most, That we took for granted, Not around when most wanted, Wondering if we couldn’t, Regretting how we wouldn’t, Choosing to burn as crude, Than to fade and brood… remember... the grass is green here too!

The Philosopher and I

Image
“I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is that I can’t find anybody who can tell me what they want.” – Mark Twain Once on a road trip my boys were bored and tired. As would any mother do, I thought I would entertain them to help shorten the journey. I let my hair down and rolled down the window of the car. The wind gushed in and blew my hair into the air. I called out to them and said, “Look, look. I am a wiiittcchhh.” They looked at me and my older one immediately disapproved, “No. You do not look like one.” Touched and amazed at his quick response, I thought to myself, “He would never call me a witch. He would oppose any reference of a witch (always a bad one) to his mother dear as outrageous. Filled with joy and ecstasy, oozing with a happy smile, I asked him, “Why not?” This philosopher-child’s answer taught me another wonder in life that is often hidden in this sugar coated world. He said unamused, “Witches are not FAT!” Probing d...

Thoughts so deep, feels empty and like an abyss!

Image
As I sit in this room with a view, That provokes my thoughts few, With a river that gently flows, Through a city tiny this glows, In neon lights very deep at night, The lovely green so hard to fight! There lies my little old village, Adorned well in modern pillage, Further down smoke from a pyre, Lit well with tears and one last fire, Desires, hate and pain has just end, As we are tossed on one last bend. Further down the Wangchu bank, With Tashichhoedzong at the flank, Of a simple palace of our loving King, And beauty that old Do-Ngoen bring, Here lies strength and great treasure, Nothing can their worth ever measure. My thoughts further go slow down, With the river like an evening gown, Massive structures that bring vanity, Trying to compete with all insanity, For how long this goes on and on, Are we not stuck with the unknown? No gleeful children in the parks, Dogs out too with loud barks, Rushing cars and fast paces, Pe...

Just Comfortably Numb

Image
So hurt – can’t feel no pain, Something's lost – there is no gain. As voices call out to me loud, I am beneath a dark cloud. I gravely look up at the sky, I am so done asking why. Should never have learnt to endure, All the teachings were a lure! And so I just am sitting here, There is not a thing I hear. Just brooding as I try to rhyme Wasted as I waste my time! I know I am not dumb, I’m just comfortably numb…

The State and Citizen Relationship in Bhutan - a view Bhutan has experienced rapid changes politically, socially, economically and culturally since it became a nation state in the 1600s, thus changing the relation of its citizens to the state. Thus, a study to understand the exact relationship between state and citizen becomes fundamental. Often stated by many political theorists, the state seems to want maximum authority and citizen maximum liberty. It then becomes the utmost duty of both the state and citizen to compromise on all issues to strike a balance to bring out harmony and happiness in the nation. The Bhutanese have always been supportive of the state since it became a nation state. This we see in the protective activities of various external interference even as a young nation state when the Tibetans launched many attacks. The untrained ‘ pazaps’ (militia) would rise from amongst the farmers in defence of a nationhood they did not even understand. While the citizens...
