The State and Citizen Relationship in Bhutan - a view Bhutan has experienced rapid changes politically, socially, economically and culturally since it became a nation state in the 1600s, thus changing the relation of its citizens to the state. Thus, a study to understand the exact relationship between state and citizen becomes fundamental. Often stated by many political theorists, the state seems to want maximum authority and citizen maximum liberty. It then becomes the utmost duty of both the state and citizen to compromise on all issues to strike a balance to bring out harmony and happiness in the nation. The Bhutanese have always been supportive of the state since it became a nation state. This we see in the protective activities of various external interference even as a young nation state when the Tibetans launched many attacks. I am also doing well – mostly planning on how to become a good teacher and an even better human being. I am at my best amidst my wonderful colleagues – who have given me so much love and high regards, my students – who have shared their joy and sorrow and who have grown into my life so beautifully that it will take me several lifetimes to forget them and a family – who has made it possible for me to achieve the impossible grooming me with so much affection and instilling in me compassion for all the six realms. Sharing makes immense sense, Giving always release our tense, Trying never was an option, We are filled with compassion. What if we all let sadness go, Let it flow out with our ego, It is just a matter of time, Before we get into the sublime!

Yet another journey’s end Curious about the next bend Yet another chapter’s close, Like a fully bloomed rose! Perhaps the full rose will now wither, As the inevitable comes hither, But beautiful memories we made, Will not let the withering rose fade! All the squabble and quarrel, Shouts and yells in a choral, Always ending with a hug and smile, Conquering that tiresome mile! Every little abstract dance, Every little happy glance, Even the forlornly funny song, The withered rose will smile along! Thus begins another journey, With hopes to meet the funny, Saving me from life’s messy churn, Lifting me at every turn!

Confusions fill to the brim, Like in a dramatic film, All the things done together, No surprise – forever’s never! A feeling tough to judge, Like a very salty fudge, Tears well up in the eye, As smiles say goodbye!
